Bio
Mr Stephen Farrell is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based in Dublin, specialising in cataract surgery, paediatric ophthalmology, and strabismus (squint) surgery. He provides both adult and paediatric eye care across leading Dublin hospitals, including the Mater Private Hospital and the Beacon Hospital.
He completed his higher specialist training in ophthalmic surgery in Ireland before undertaking advanced fellowship training in Vancouver, Canada. During this fellowship, he gained extensive subspecialist experience in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, with a particular focus on childhood cataracts and glaucoma.
Mr. Farrell has been performing cataract surgeries for over 17 years and has performed thousands of procedures. Mr Farrell holds an MD from University College Dublin, awarded for research into retinal biochemistry. He has published widely in peer-reviewed international ophthalmology journals and has presented his work at major international conferences in cataract surgery, paediatric eye disease, and general ophthalmology.
His clinical expertise includes cataract surgery, strabismus correction, paediatric ophthalmology, and general ophthalmic care. He is known for managing both routine and complex eye conditions requiring surgical intervention in children and adults.
Mr Farrell is a member of the Irish College of Ophthalmologists and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS). He is also actively involved in training junior doctors in ophthalmology in Ireland and contributes to ongoing clinical education and research in the field.
